Our Story

Our story unfolds with the visionary dream of Purna Narayan Shrestha and Purneshowari Devi Shrestha. Purna, a seasoned professional who served the royal family for years, harbored a dream to establish a remarkable yoga ashram in Nepal. Together with his elder son, they invested a lifetime of savings to construct the ashram, nestled 20km away from Kathmandu, behind the Monkey Temple in the hills.

However, challenges arose, including issues with water sources, local support, and road accessibility. Despite enduring setbacks and losing substantial funds, after a 16-year wait, Purna made the decision to sell the property. With the proceeds, he relocated to Pokhara, surrounded by nature, where he acquired a vast piece of land. In the face of an unstable government and zero support, the initial plan for a yoga ashram transformed into a versatile platform for rejuvenation.

The entire family, including three brother’s family and their father, pooled their savings to complete the ambitious project. Even during the challenges posed by the pandemic, the eldest brother, an engineer working in Afghanistan, returned to support the venture, ensuring its successful completion. However, challenges arose, including issues with water sources, local support, and road accessibility. Despite enduring setbacks and losing substantial funds, after a 16-year wait, Purna made the decision to sell the property. In the face of an unstable government and zero support, the initial plan for a yoga ashram transformed into a versatile platform for rejuvenation.

The Purna Center, named not only in title but also in action, emerged from the ground up, utilizing local resources and skills. The project became a community effort, eschewing construction companies in favor of local talent. Every aspect, from the interior design to the construction, was a hands-on learning experience, with no reliance on professionals.

The Purna Center, beyond its architectural triumph, has become a paragon of self-sustainability and holistic well-being. Meticulously designed with environmental consciousness, the center operates as a self-sufficient entity.

In line with a commitment to health, the center serves exclusively pure vegetarian meals, embracing a philosophy that nourishes both the body and the spirit. The culinary offerings are crafted with locally sourced, organic ingredients, promoting a sustainable and wholesome dining experience.

Echoing the values of purity and wellness, the Purna Center stands as a sanctuary free from the influence of alcohol and smoking. It cultivates an environment where individuals can immerse themselves in rejuvenation without the distractions of substances that compromise well-being.

This conscientious approach to health not only aligns with the vision of Purna and his family but also extends to the broader community. The center, rooted in its commitment to sustainable practices, sets a precedent for mindful living and serves as an inspiring model for those seeking a sanctuary that harmonizes with both nature and individual health.

In this remarkable journey, numerous community members developed their expertise, seizing job prospects within the market. The Purna Center, a vivid embodiment of experiential learning, proudly stands as a symbol of accomplishment. Purna, once a site shunned as forbidden land, now serves as an inspiring model. It exemplifies the power of unity within families, demonstrating that collective strength can overcome any challenge. At the age of 91, Purna witnesses the realization of his dream, creating a warm haven for events, yoga, music, and beyond.
